The AirPods Pro 2 would keep Apple's Lightning port

Apple has maintained a strange and strong resistance regarding the adoption of the USB-C standard in its devices. However, since the first MacBooks and iPads came with this type of connection, users, developers and technology experts expect the company just finally transitioned to the new standard. For this reason, it was expected that the new AirPods Pro 2 would make the leap, but it seems that this will not be the case.

Ming Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst with a good reputation when it comes to advancing launches related to Apple products, does not believe that this will happen. According to Kuo's most recent report, Apple's AirPods Pro 2 will keep the Lightning portAt least for one more generation. In addition, they are expected to go into production within the second half of this 2022.

I anticipate that the AirPods Pro 2 charging case will still support Lightning, not USB-C.

On the other hand, Kuo has taken the opportunity to confirm some details about the production of the AirPods Pro 2. The analyst reports that these new devices would be manufactured in the region of Vietnamas part of Apple's efforts to diversify device production and rely less on China.

As he already commented Wall Street JournalApple is in search of change your supply and production lines. In this way, they plan to replace some of their operations in China with new headquarters in Vietnam and India.

China and Vietnam are currently Apple headquarters in manufacturing and assembly. In fact, it is in both Asian countries that those from Cupertino manufacture their most recent AirPods models.

The AirPods Pro 2 they are not the only ones that will apparently keep the Lightning port for another generation. As we have commented in previous publications, everything indicates that the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro will also keep the proprietary connector of the company, at least for now.

In fact, it would not be until the iPhone 15 that we would see the Apple smartphone officially receive a USB-C port for the first time – because there are already unofficial modified models. Of course, we believe that the arrival of a future iPhone with this connector would cause a change in the rest of the devices and accessories; among them the range of AirPods that the company could present during the next few years.

In addition to its possible release date, the first details about the design of the AirPods Pro 2. Some images that came to light at the end of last year show us what would some of the technical details of the headphones look like. Among them, we know that the case would have integrated speakers. The reason? Being able to locate them —by means of sound alerts— more easily through Apple's Find application.

Of course, let's not forget that so far these are only rumors. Ming-Chi Kuo has proven to be a reliable source, although we always recommend not to take it as confirmation. After all, it is a product that has not been officially announced, so many things could change in the future, and even not be true at all.
